About Us

The Journal of Human Sexuality, the official publication of the Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity (ATCSI), is a scholarly journal dedicated to the dissemination of information in the field of human sexuality with a particular emphasis on sexual orientation and gender. The chief aim of the journal is to publish thought-provoking scholarship by researchers, clinicians, and other like-minded scholars.

In keeping with the ATCSI’s mission, the journal particularly seeks articles relevant to the understanding and care of persons who experience unwanted same-sex erotic attractions or conflict between their biological sex and perceived gender identity and the clinicians who provide this care. Reasoned perspectives and theoretical approaches that may be unwelcome for political and ideological reasons within mainstream psychology are encouraged.

The journal welcomes empirical research (both quantitative and qualitative), theoretical and conceptual articles, in-depth reviews of the research and literature, clinical case studies, book reviews, and letters to the editor. Manuscripts should be submitted in English using Microsoft Word (in 12-point font, Times New Roman, and doubled-spaced) and adhere to the publication guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition.  Manuscript are limited to 10,000 words, inclusive of title page, a maximum 250-word abstract (including 5 to 7 keywords), text references, and tables. Book reviews are generally limited to 2000 words and letters to the editor should not exceed 600 words. Authors may request
permission to submit longer manuscripts if there is a clear justification for doing so.

Prospective authors should send the following items as e-mail attachments: (1) a cover letter indicating that the manuscript is original work not under consideration for publication elsewhere nor having been published elsewhere in part or whole; (2) a blinded (i.e., with no references or
indications as to the author’s name) electronic copy of the manuscript; (3) an unblinded copy of the manuscript (i.e., complete with the name, academic degree, professional affiliation, and contact information for all authors, and any desired acknowledgment of research support or other
credit). These attachments can be sent to the managing editor at contactus@therapeuticchoice.com. There are no
fees payable to submit or publish in this journal.

Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication in the Journal of Human Sexuality, authors will be asked to sign an Author’s Agreement conveying all copyright ownership to the ATCSI. The journal is published annually, provided as a benefit of membership to all ATCSI members, and is
accessible one year after publication through the ProQuest databases, Google scholar, and the journal’s web site.
